Using Astrology to Identify Your Core Values
Let's bring it back to the basics
I recently came across this Substack article from MindHoliday on how to define your core values, which got me thinking about how you can use your birth chart as a starting point and helpful tool for this exercise. How does your birth chart shed light on what these values are? I like to think of your birth chart as showing your full potential that you are growing into over the course of your lifetime, but it also points to interests that have been with you since you were a child, which you may just need a little help remembering.
Over the last year, up until this past September, I had been experiencing frustration, burnout, and confusion with the direction I wanted to take my business in next. As a business owner, there is so much pressure to be posting on every social media platform at once, and to always get attention, likes, and views. It felt like I was putting out astrology content based on what I thought would get the most immediate validation, and I had completely lost sight of why I was initially drawn to astrology and what I enjoyed exploring most with it. Expressing these frustrations in a therapy session last fall, my therapist told me to look up Brene Brown’s list of core values.
I was instructed to circle five of these values that resonated the most. After writing them down in between sessions, we spent our next session together doing a guided visualization. She had me close my eyes and think about who would be at my 80th birthday party. Who would stand up and give a little toast for me? What would these people have to say about how I had impacted their lives? I saw one of my future children thank me for all of the advice and support I had given him with his own work, and then I had someone I had mentored express gratitude for teaching and sharing my knowledge with them. The themes I witnessed in that visualization seemed to all come back to knowledge, teaching, family, and creativity. Family hadn’t even been on my values list to begin with! So it was interesting to see how what will likely matter at the end of my life isn’t what I spend the most time worrying about now.
After identifying what values were most important to me, I immediately saw how they were related to very prominent parts of my birth chart. My North Node in Sagittarius points to the topic of knowledge and teaching, and then my Leo ascendant indicates how important expressing myself creatively is. So today, I want to help you do the same. We will be going over some key areas of the chart that you may want to refer back to from time to time. These are the main placements that I would prioritize if you’re feeling the need to get recentered and remember who you are, and we’ll be tying these chart placements back to the list of values above.
Before, we get into it, I wanted to share that I was a guest on
podcast Star-Crossed, and the episode just came out today. She also has a great astrology Substack too. In the episode, we talked all about 7th house placements, the ruler of the 7th, and Saturn returns, plus a few other astrology topics. You can listen to the episode here or wherever else you listen to podcasts.Okay, let’s now talk values…
