Your Guide to the Astrology of 2024
Every major astrological transit for 2024 and what that means for your rising sign. Also included are key dates to watch for within these longer transits.
Hi everyone!
Before we get to the end of the year, I wanted to give a breakdown of all the key transits that will be taking place throughout 2024, and what those mean for each individual rising sign. I’ve gone over some of these transits already in past forecast newsletters, but I have consolidated the most important ones into one article so you can easily refer back to them over the next year. What’s written for each rising sign is literally the same information I would give you in a reading if you were to come to me and ask what general themes you should be anticipating for next year. In addition to this, paid subscribers will receive the usual Capricorn season monthly forecast in about a week from now. My keyboard is going to fall off with the amount of writing I’m doing this month! Also, this is a really long email that cuts off, so if you are a rising sign that is in the second half of the zodiac, you will want to log in to Substack on your computer to read yours.
To kick things off, when I’m looking at the major themes for a year long period, I am always prioritizing the transits of Jupiter, Saturn and the Nodes, which is why they are the main transits featured here. An interesting theme that I’m noticing for 2024 is that in such a short time frame, we will have gone from having a heavy emphasis on fixed sign transits, with the eclipses in Taurus/Scorpio from 2021-2023, Saturn in Aquarius from 2020-2023 and Jupiter in Taurus from May 2023-May 2024, to seeing a huge shift to mutable sign transits, with Jupiter entering Gemini, Saturn still in Pisces and the first Pisces eclipse taking place in the fall. So for any of you with mutable sign (Pisces, Virgo, Gemini, Sagittarius) heavy charts, 2024 overall will likely be a more significant year for you.
Let’s start with Jupiter moving through Taurus until the end of May. Jupiter’s retrograde ends on December 31, so we’re kicking off the new year with Jupiter finally direct, moving forward again in the Taurus ruled house of your chart. Jupiter’s transit brings growth, expansion and opportunity to a certain part of your life, but it can also be very overwhelming or have you feeling like you’ve bitten off more than you can chew. While Jupiter has been retrograde in Taurus this past fall, you may have noticed a slowing down in the Taurus ruled house of your chart, but as we head into the first five months of 2024, you will once again have a desire to expand, accept new opportunities and keep more of an open mind in that part of your life.
On May 25, Jupiter will move into Gemini where it will stay until June of 2025. As we head into summer, the Gemini ruled house of your chart will become be a bigger focus, and a new part of your life will start to feel extra expansive. I personally love Jupiter in Gemini, because it prioritizes themes related to communication based work, like writing, speaking, as well as finding innovative ways to share ideas and connect with people. In addition, this transit will hopefully provide some relief to all the mutable signs currently feeling the heavy weight of Saturn in Pisces.
Speaking of Saturn, Saturn will remain in Pisces for all of 2024. Saturn made its way into Pisces in March of 2023, and it won’t leave be fully leaving this sign until February of 2026, so we’re still in the thick of this transit. I typically find that the first year of Saturn in a new sign and house of your chart is the most challenging, so you may be moving on from having that initial stress of Saturn entering the Pisces ruled house of your chart, as you now work to put better structures in place in that area. The whole purpose of Saturn transits is to get you to lay solid foundations that will last you for the next several decades. People with Pisces, Virgo, Gemini, and Sagittarius placements or angles between about 2-20 degrees of these mutable signs will be feeling this Saturn transit pretty intensely over the next year. There might be additional stressors or responsibilities you’re taking on, or you’re experiencing tough growing pains as you transition into a new life chapter.
In September of 2024, we will experience the first lunar eclipse in Pisces. This will kick off the Virgo/Pisces eclipse cycle that will last through 2026. Having an eclipse happen in Pisces, the same sign that Saturn is transiting, will bring an even greater focus to that Pisces ruled house of your chart. Where things may have felt slow, restricting, or super heavy in that part of your life, you may finally be seeing more concrete change or bigger developments taking place there. There could also be an important realization that is made about those Pisces house themes in your chart come September.
The Nodes are still very much in Aries and Libra for the entire year. We will have one Aries solar eclipse on April 8 and two more Libra eclipses, a lunar eclipse on March 24 and a solar eclipse on October 2. So you can expect bigger changes and shifts to take place clustered around the end of March/April, as well as the end of September/early October. This Aries/Libra eclipse story was initiated in the spring of 2023, so you’re seeing a continuation of themes that were first brought up over this past year. You may see a new chapter unfolding or a continual push to keep developing the themes associated with the Aries and Libra houses in your chart.
Another major transit happening this year is that Pluto will make its way back into Aquarius. It will first dip back into Aquarius on January 20 until September 1, before returning to Capricorn for a couple of months. Then Pluto will fully transition into Aquarius on November 19, 2024 and will stay there until 2043. We got a sneak peak of this transit in the spring of 2023, but it’s coming back in full force in 2024. If you have angles or planets right around 0-1 degrees of a fixed sign (Aquarius, Leo, Scorpio Taurus), you will be feeling this transit the most over the next year. A huge transformation might be taking place either internally for you, or you could be experiencing major shifts in a specific area of your life. For everyone though, Pluto’s transit through a new house of your chart will be felt more subtly, since it is a 20 year transit. You tend to feel these longer, outer planet transits more when shorter transits, like Jupiter, Saturn, Mars, or the Sun enter fixed signs and aspect Pluto.
Like usual, we will have three Mercury retrogrades this year, and Mercury retrograde will be transitioning out of the earth signs into the fire signs. There is a Mercury retrograde in Aries from April 1-25, another one that starts in Virgo and ends in Leo from August 5-28, and a final Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius from November 26 - December 15. The trio of houses ruled by fire signs in your chart is where you will may feel some frustration and confusion, but ultimately you will be reworking those areas and developing new mindsets there.
Finally, we will wrap up the year with a Mars retrograde in Leo and Cancer. It will start on December 6, 2024 and last until February 24, 2025. So as we approach the end of the year, you may see a slowing down in energy, or you’re entering a more intense period of reflection. This would not be an ideal time to accept major new opportunities or launch something important. Typically with Mars retrogrades, you end up pivoting in a completely different direction once the retrograde is over. If you end up feeling burned out at the end of 2024, know that it will lift by the early spring of 2025. Again, you will be checking the houses ruled by Leo and Cancer to see where you may be experiencing these feelings of frustration.
Now, let’s get into what all of these transits mean for your rising sign specifically. We will also be looking into peak dates for when these transits might be felt more intensely…
