The Astrology of the U.S. Election
Which candidate is set to win based on their chart, as well as how the planets show the moment in history we're currently living through.
I never thought I would be writing about politics, yet here we are. Over the years of being an astrologer, I have been repeatedly pushed out of my comfort zone in regard to the topics I learn and speak about, which is a main reason of why I love my job so much. And because my specific niche is exploring astrological timing, it is interesting to note the correlation between what’s currently happening with the planets and the corresponding world events taking place. The upcoming U.S. election is a topic that I’ve been getting a lot of questions about recently, so let’s explore what’s going on more in depth together.
As a side note, it is my job as an astrologer to stay objective. Therefore, I’m not weighing in on my own political opinions, I’m simply stating the astrology that is happening in the near future and how I see it correlating with the outcome of this election and also the future of the United States over the next several years. Hopefully, the below can help you put into context where we are in history and the shape of things to come.
Before we get into the upcoming election specifically, we need to have some background context on where we are at this moment in time. Using astrology, you are able to track how history often repeats itself. Any transit that is currently happening now or in the future has happened before - this goes for transits to your own chart that affect you on an individual level, as well as transits that are felt on more of a global scale. To better understand what is to come, you have to first look at what has happened in the past. It is especially important to keep this in mind when we are trying to understand the astrology that will be taking place over the next few years, as multiple outer planets change signs in 2025.
2025 will mark a huge turning point in this decade, where the immediate, post-Covid years, which happened in the wake of the Jupiter-Saturn-Pluto conjunction in Capricorn, are now fading out, and a new chapter is beginning as Pluto, Neptune, Uranus, and Saturn all start to shift into new zodiac signs over the next year. I want to focus on a few of these transits now, because they set the stage for what might happen with this election, and also hint at how events in the United States will unfold over the next 8-20 years (and also worldwide of course, but focusing on only the U.S. for now).
Pluto + Uranus
Pluto has been moving backwards and forwards across the signs of Capricorn and Aquarius for about a year and a half now, but on November 19, 2024 it will return to Aquarius and remain there until 2043. It’s worth noting that this happens just days after the election results are announced. As I went over in my very first newsletter last year, this transit has a lot to do with rapid innovation in the realm of technology and science, which we’ve already seen quite literally with the rise of artificial intelligence.
However, Aquarius is a sign that is also concerned with equality and the democratization of power. Aquarius has its eye on the future and likes to challenge the status quo. This is a sign that will often envision how change needs to happen in the world way before everyone else is ready to get on board. It’s also a sign that hates being controlled. So with Pluto now entering Aquarius for the next two decades, expect these themes to become more prominent.
Under this transit, the idea of just one person being in charge of the entire country will start to seem outdated. I’m convinced that by the time this transit is over in 20 years from now that we will either no longer have a singular president, or that the types of people in leadership roles will look drastically different. Having the first female president would certainly align with this sentiment. Looking back at the last time Pluto was in Aquarius, it was when the U.S. was involved in the Revolutionary War, which was all about establishing the United States away from the control of England. So that Aquarius theme was very literal. Not only in the U.S., but in countries across the world, take note in the coming years of how traditional positions of power are changing.
The other major transit we need to discuss is that Uranus is about to enter Gemini in July of 2025. Though it dips back into Taurus for the winter and spring of 2025/2026, Uranus will return fully to Gemini starting in April of 2026 until 2033. This transit is extremely significant, because it marks the Uranus return of the United States, which is something that only happens once every 84 years. Historically, Uranus being in the sign of Gemini has coincided with the U.S. being at war. The last time Uranus was in Gemini was from 1942-1949, during which the U.S. got involved in World War 2. The time before that was from 1858-1866, which was when the U.S. had the Civil War, and the time before that was 1774-1782, which again was the Revolutionary War. So it’s very likely that throughout 2025 and 2026 as Uranus enters this sign, this theme of either internal conflict happening within the U.S., or the U.S. or getting involved in another country’s war is likely to occur.
In the diagram above, the inner circle is the birth chart of the United States. The planets in green around the outer circle show where the planets will be positioned at the U.S.’s 2026 solar return. Note how Mars and Uranus are conjunct in Gemini, close to the U.S.’s natal Uranus in Gemini.
I think we’ll start to see what will happen in the summer of 2025 when Uranus first enters Gemini, but 2026 is the year I really have my eye on, when a Mars and Uranus return happen in Gemini at the same time as the United States’ birthday on July 4. See the diagram above for a visual. And about six months later, in early 2027, there will be a Mars retrograde in Virgo, which will further aggravate this Uranus transit. It is worth noting that historically, in the years that immediately followed these past periods of Uranus being in Gemini, the country experienced periods of huge growth and economic booms. The 1950s was a time of post-war boom, with a surge in consumer goods. After the Civil War, we had the second Industrial Revolution, where there were a ton of advancements in technology and transportation. And then after the Revolutionary War, there was the first Industrial Revolution that also had new inventions like the cotton gin and improvements to communication and electricity. Once Uranus moves on from Gemini, Pluto will still remain in Aquarius for over a decade, which definitely points to further technological and scientific advancements. I expect this type of positive growth to happen in the mid 2030s.
Saturn + Neptune
Narrowing things down a bit, I want to zoom in on another transit that will define 2025 and 2026, which is the Saturn-Neptune conjunction in Aries. And in the lead up to this conjunction, which doesn’t go exact until 2026, these two planets remain very close together in Pisces. Throughout history, hard aspects (opposition, square or conjunction) between Saturn and Neptune have been associated with political scandals, confusion surrounding people in leadership roles, and a general lack of trust in the government. I’m definitely curious to see what type of stories will surface related to these themes over the next two years.
Saturn is the planet that is associated with leadership and people in authority, while Neptune is a planet that blurs boundaries, and indicates how not everything is as it seems. Let’s look at some examples of how Saturn-Neptune aspects have manifested in the past to get a better idea of what might come up.
2016: Saturn in Sagittarius square to Neptune in Pisces. There were a lot of headlines about fake news surrounding the 2016 election on social media. Also, in the lead up to election day, numerous sexual misconduct allegations surfaced from Trump’s past. The Neptune theme of what is real and what isn’t was very prominent at that time.
2006: Saturn in Leo opposite Neptune in Aquarius. Vice President, Dick Cheney, got a lot of heat when he accidentally shot a Texas attorney on a hunting trip. There was confusion over whether drinking had occurred prior to this accident, and Neptune is very much associated with alcohol and drugs. There was also confusion over the retelling of the story, like how far the bullet traveled and at what time the shooting happened.
1998: Saturn in Taurus squaring Neptune in Aquarius. News broke that President Bill Clinton was having an affair with White House intern, Monica Lewinsky. In the months that followed the announcement in January 1998, the Saturn-Neptune square went exact and the media debated whether an affair had occurred, so there was that Neptune theme of confusion over what had actually happened.
1989: Saturn and Neptune conjunction in Capricorn. The Keating Five scandal - where five U.S. senators were involved with Charles Keating, a businessman and chairman of the Lincoln Savings and Loan Association. Federal regulators were investigating Keating’s bank for financial misconduct, and these five senators were accused of pressuring federal regulators to go easy on Keating. As a result it led to the public not trusting the government, and it brought up the question of money influencing politics. This scandal involved the Capricorn theme of banks and finances, and also had the Neptune confusion theme of general political distrust.
1972: Saturn in Gemini opposite Neptune in Sagittarius. Watergate - President Nixon and members of his administration were involved in a series of illegal activities, including wiretapping. This ultimately led to Nixon’s resignation, and again the theme of public distrust with the government comes up. There was also confusion over who knew what and who was responsible for what actions.
1963: Saturn in Aquarius square to Neptune in Scorpio. President John F. Kennedy is assassinated, and there is a botched autopsy, with a failure to locate where the bullet entered and exited his brain. Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson stepped in as the new president, but part of the public developed conspiracy theories about how they thought he was partly involved in the assassination. So again, we get this Neptune influence of what news is real, versus what isn’t.
With the stage now set, let’s get into the astrology of this specific election.
The 2024 U.S. Election
A huge thing to keep in mind with this election is that Mars retrograde is starting right after the results are to be announced. Mars retrograde starts in the sign of Leo on December 6 and ends in Cancer on February 24, 2025, so Mars retrograde is still in effect when inauguration happens. This retrograde also heavily affects the birth chart of the United States which has Mercury at 24 degrees of Cancer and the Sun at 13 degrees of Cancer. Therefore, this hints at how there may be confusion or possible delays with the results of the election, or the outcome could be slightly open to change. In addition, there may be a lot of anger coming from certain people, since Mars is a planet associated with aggression and confrontation.
The diagram above shows the transits (outer circle) to the birth chart of the U.S. on inauguration day in January 2025. Mars retrograde, circled, is conjunct the U.S.’s natal Mercury to the degree that day.
Let’s now look at the charts of the candidates. There are so many things you could note about both Trump and Kamala Harris’s charts at the time the election is taking place, whether that’s their annual profections, secondary progressions, transits, or solar returns. However, I’ve narrowed it down to just one transit that is always very telling of who will win. At the time of the last election in 2020, I went back through the presidential candidates from the past 35 years or so, and I started to see that the people who won all had one thing in common happening in their transit charts when they were elected: eclipses currently happening or about to happen in the sign of their ascendant or their Midheaven. If the eclipses were not in one of these parts of their chart, the candidate did not win. As a reminder, eclipses are indicated by where the North and South Nodes are transiting. You can also find a whole list of eclipse signs and dates here.
Biden 2020 - Biden has a Sagittarius ascendant, and in 2020 we had both a lunar and solar eclipse in Sagittarius. The Sagittarius eclipses continued into 2021 too.
Trump 2016 - Trump has a Leo ascendant, and though the eclipses were not in Leo in 2016, we had a first Leo lunar eclipse in early February 2017, just days after inauguration took place. The Leo eclipses continued until 2019.
Obama 2012 - Obama has an Aquarius ascendant and a Scorpio Midheaven. In November 2012, we had a Scorpio solar eclipse, and the Scorpio eclipses continued throughout 2013 and 2014.
Obama 2008 - Again, Obama has an Aquarius ascendant, and in 2008 there were both a solar and lunar eclipse in Aquarius. Aquarius eclipses continued into 2009 as well.
Bush 2004 - George W. Bush has a Leo ascendant and an Aries Midheaven. In 2004, there was an Aries solar eclipse, and the Aries eclipses continued into 2005 and 2006. His opponent at the time, John Kerry, has a Libra Midheaven, and Libra was the other sign where the eclipses were happening that year. However, during the actual term from 2004-2008, the eclipses would move on to Virgo and Pisces, a sign Kerry does not have planets in. Meanwhile, Bush has his Mars in Virgo, and Mars is also the ruling planet of his Aries Midheaven. So Bush had continued activations of important placements in his chart.
Bush 2000 - Again, Bush has a Leo ascendant, and in 2000 there was both a Leo lunar and solar eclipse. His opponent that year, Al Gore, also has a Leo rising. So why didn’t he win? I attribute Bush winning to the fact that his Sun (which is also his Leo ascendant chart ruler) is in Cancer, and from 2000-2001, the eclipses were starting up in Cancer/Capricorn. So he had two important eclipse cycles one after the other - first in the sign of his ascendant, and then in the sign of his sun, the chart ruler. Al Gore did not.
Clinton 1996: Clinton has a Libra ascendant and Cancer Midheaven, and in 1996 there was a Libra solar eclipse and a Libra lunar eclipse. The Libra eclipses carried into 1997 too.
Clinton 1992: Again, Clinton has a Cancer Midheaven. In 1992, there was a solar eclipse in Cancer.
George H.W. Bush 1988: George H.W. Bush also has a Leo ascendant, just like his son, and he has a Taurus Midheaven. He is the rare exception I’ve found to this pattern. There were no eclipses in either Leo or Taurus the year he was elected. However, similar to Trump, the eclipses did start shifting into Leo/Aquarius in 1989, the year he entered office, and they continued across these two signs in 1990-1991. So they were on the cusp of starting.
Reagan 1984: Reagan has a Sagittarius ascendant. In 1984 there was a lunar and a solar eclipse in Sagittarius.
Okay I could keep going, but by now I hope you get the picture. Let’s apply what we’ve learned to the charts of Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.
We have the first Pisces lunar eclipse in the upcoming Pisces/Virgo eclipse series taking place on September 17, 2024. Throughout 2025 and 2026, the eclipses will continue to happen in Pisces. Looking at the diagram below, you can see that Kamala Harris has a Gemini ascendant and a Pisces Midheaven. Therefore, like we’ve just seen in so many of the past examples of who was elected, she has the eclipses happening in her Midheaven sign.
The diagram above shows transits to Kamala Harris’s chart on the day of the lunar eclipse in Pisces this September. The eclipse activates her Pisces Midheaven (circled).
Trump, on the other hand, does not have important chart activations coming up. Looking at his chart below, he has a Leo ascendant and a Taurus Midheaven. The eclipses are in neither of these two signs in 2024, and they won’t be in these signs in 2025 either.
Trusting that this pattern will continue with the upcoming election, I am confident in predicting that Kamala Harris will win.
Ok this deserves a Pulitzer. Mad respect for the research and time that went into this deep dive!
Wowowow I LOVE THIS! I am also predicting Kamala Harris to win because Trump has what looks like some very CHALLENGING aspects coming up at the beginning of 2025 - a lot of Uranus transits that seem challenging. Uranus will be transiting through his 10th house in Gemini with his Sun, North Node and Uranus for a while...
